We will stay in a visitor center in Briançon (12,000 inhabitants) which is the highest city in Europe (1,300 m above sea level) and enjoys exceptional sunshine.
Surrounded by many Vauban forts listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the old town does not lack charm with its narrow streets with medieval looks and its views of the various massifs that surround it.
Briançon is also the proximity of Italy, the great passes of Galibier, Lautaret, Izoard as well as the start of many hikes in the Ecrins National Park, the Queyras Regional Park and the valleys of Névache, Guisane and Vallouise.
Grenoble and Turin are only a hundred kilometers away, Marseille and Geneva about 250 kilometers away.
